I just created a primer to summarize my research on health care (the many ways in which conventional wisdom is wrong). Much of this content was previously spread across several posts, and some of it is new.

Don’t think I’ve linked to this before: . Would it be possible to have some kind of index that measures the friction associated with getting things done?

The Life You Can Save decided to buy its eponymous book (by Peter Singer) back from the publisher, record an audiobook with celebrities, and give that & an e-book away for free. I wonder if this is cost-effective to do with other top advocacy books?

We always say that the US spends more on healthcare as a percent of GDP than any other country, but we're actually 2nd to the Marshall Islands... do we just not count them as fully independent?

Any major presidential candidate could afford this. would hardly notice the expense, but could run on bringing US healthcare costs in line with those of other countries and taxing Wall Street, both without even being in office

Who is going to step up and spend $1 million on healthcare in Tuvalu? This is pocket change not only for the US federal government, but for many US states, foundations, or even individuals.

The US spends just over 17% of GDP on health care, while Tuvalu spends a relatively high 15.45% (source ) Tuvalu's total GDP is only US $42 million, so raising their health spending by just over 1.5% should only take about $700,000. Call it $1 million.

You've heard that the US spends more on health care than any other country, and you've heard a lot of unrealistic proposals to change this by reforming US healthcare. I have the most realistic plan: make another country spend more. All it takes is $1million/yr for Tuvalu

Rather than apply for grants, spend the time working on becoming independently wealthy. What proportion of scientists could fund their research better this way? Not most, but more than currently do I think

After years of studying state and local budgets only to have people say "yeah, but what about regulations?" it's great to have several new resources thanks to advances in theory, data, and analysis... (a mini-thread)
