#18SPCS confirmed that the breakup of FREGAT DEB (TANK) (#37756, 2011-037B) occurred on May 8, 2020, between 0402 and 0551 UTC. Tracking 65 associated pieces – no indication caused by collision. #spaceflightsafety #spacedebris

That’s odd: it was the booster for RadioAstron which went into an ultra-high orbit, why is its Fregat in the 400-2000 transfer orbit?

This is exactly why the recently proposed FCC orbital debris mitigation rules are not effective and may be, in fact, counterproductive. Most recent OD mitigation proposals are not based on data, but rather perceptions and emotions. Never a good rationale for creating new rules

I’m confused, what exactly are you arguing? That we shouldn’t put new OD mitigation measures in place because debris from a previous launch broke up and is not believed to have been caused by a collision?
