It’s halftime in a game the whole country is watching. Some for team allegiance. Many for entertainment. Others don’t have a side, but watch out of love for the game. But above it all, it’s about legacy. About who leads the country. Welcome to the Impeachment. Welcome to “1865.”

Think this is the only impeachment to be called partisan? Listen to “1865.” It dramatizes the aftermath of the Lincoln assassination and the battle with Johnson for the soul of the country. It all leads to a very contentious 1st impeachment. But at least THEY called witnesses.

"May God forbid that the future historian shall record of this day's proceedings that by reason of the failure of the legislative power of the people to triumph over the usurpations of an apostate President the fabric of American empire fell and perished from the earth!” -Bingham

Congress cries “high crimes and misdemeanors”! The President says he’s committed no crime - that everything he’s done was under his duty as President. The sensational trial has begun, and it’s probable that his party will vote to acquit by strict party line. Welcome to “1865.”

Of Lincoln's visit to Seward, Fanny said, "It was the last time I ever saw our beloved President—kind, genial & unaffected— he lay talking to Father on his sick bed, & after perhaps an hour—rose, & went from our sight forever."

The President has been impeached. He calls it a witch hunt; a plot to remove him from office. He blames the former head of his intelligence, a man he fired for not showing loyalty to his Presidency, for orchestrating the whole affair. Washington picks sides. Welcome to “1865.”
