Is there any evidence that mayoral appointments for DA's, school boards, sheriffs, etc. lead to inferior outcomes? If not, maybe we need fewer down-ballot elections.

Considering the way some people are fighting over this one, I'd say it definitely matters. You could just pretend Chesa was appointed and get on with your day 😄 Nobody forces you to vote.
