  1. I can’t stop thinking about the “are we in a golden era of hip-hop” Tweet compared to P4k running two rap reviews a day that exclusively have the opinions “This project is a mess that does not live up to the singles” & “This project is consistent and OK as comfort food, I guess”

  2. Can someone link me to that tweet that was like "The best thing that can happen to Twitter would be that Google buys it and renders every function unusable thus freeing us from this prison"

  3. Gilbert and Norm were probably the last two guys in the Rodney tradition, the guys who could take the time-tested rhythms and punchlines of stand-up’s 100-year-old roots and still somehow make them feel dangerous and subversive and alternative. Truly the end of an era.

  4. I saw Gilbert do a set once that was just all old, classic borscht-belt style jokes — probably a lot of well-worn material in there — and it was just riotously funny. Like seeing a master guitarist play “Greensleeves” or something.

  5. I'm officially at the age where the Newport Jazz Festival lineup seems like the only one on this list that wouldn't be like a waking nightmare

  6. I’m glad is out here always flying the flag for the pioneers because no media outlet treats anything made before “Fight the Power” with half of the respect it deserves

  7. Like it’s absolutely absurd that great yet comparatively marginal bands like Liquid Liquid and This Heat can make the rounds these days but there was no real attempt to revive and maintain the legacy of the name on the Greatest Rap Song of All Time.

  8. In fair and just world, the Furious Five would have been eating well and chilling off Coachella reunion sets and European tours like all the white bands of that era get to.

  15. The really, truly, unquestionably is the best music festival in America, full stop. It rewards the adventurous and curious and anyone open to serendipity. I had so many conversations with total strangers just sharing the amazing things we saw.

  18. I’m all kinds of fucked up about this. If we were only going to get one massive, mainstream, culture-crossing band playing “rock music” as we grew up on it, we needed an absolute beast who attacked the kit with power and precision like they used to. He kept the torch lit.
