I know big architectural changes like that take a while in the automotive space, but I was hoping to see some change after our research was presented 5 years ago. Architecture looks identical between 2014 and 2020 model.

As far as I know keep cars sold in Italy have a secure gateway since 2018, which makes “impossibile” even diagnostic operations from unauthorised FCA mechanics.

I think you’d have needed to actually kill
@a_greenberg in order to make enough of a media splash to move the needle.
Good thing that didn’t happen, but I’m betting someone will need to die before they take this stuff seriously. -
FCA did do an actual recall (still maybe the only product recall for a cybersecurity flaw I can think of?) and added a mitigation to the Uconnect cell network. So that's pretty good! And I didn't even have to die.
