Framework workarounds for app bugs are not uncommon. Perhaps their code crashes if -pathForResource:ofType: returns nil.

Why does Apple fix bugs for other companies instead of just let the app developers fix their issues???

Customers are unhappy if they upgrade their OS and their favorite app breaks. Sometimes we add workarounds in those cases.
