The sheet I just tweeted is my own home disaster kit. We get Earthquakes where I live, so it's earthquake oriented. I also have a copy of my own which is Vegetarian food - I modified this one slightly to make it generic for omnivores.

Disaster planning is probably 80% generic, with a last 20% of customization to what kind of weather related emergencies are likely to hit your geographic area. The basics are the same everywhere: Food. Water. First aid. WRITTEN PLAN For what to do and where to meet if separated.

There's a TON of advice out there (most of it conflicting) for "prepping". Don't get caught up in Zombie apocalypse stuff unless you want to because it's fun.

There's lots of good advice and resources too at https://www.ready.gov But - if it feels like a lot to absorb -- start small. Just get a go bag ready for your family. They're cheap on Amazon or you can buy some of the stuff from mine. Your big priority: Plan.

That is, make a written plan with the people you care about for what to do and where to MEET (or how to contact one another, including through third parties) if communications are all down. Knowing your plan is a huge start.

Small outages make me think of large outages. And even the worst tech outage is a passing annoyance compared to a good earthquake, tsunami, or hurricane.
