Photographs of the 1925 Paris Expo. I am struck by how unfamiliar they look - a kind of dream style that never really happened. Still too common to write off 'Art Deco' as a decorative flourish or a transitional phase to high modernism.

It's quite a demanding style to work in, but it can be done well. I don't read the above as stripped classical though - certainly not stripped, and not really classical, except perhaps the upper left pavilion.
