Yeah but it’s kind of like a PhD insisting on being called doctor. You’re technically correct but everyone can see what you’re doing. Making and then having to defend these points just detracts from message

There is nothing "technical" about it. If you have a PhD you *are* a doctor- and in fact that's where the word comes from, the medical profession borrowed it, not the other way around.
