ok so what am I missing here exactly, why do we care about what happens in Afghanistan? like I can understand people who served there feeling like it was pointless, and those with investments that would be affected... but why the rest of us? what's got everyone so upset?

I think a lot of it also has to do with illusion shattering. We only ever seem to get incompetence and anarchy where it matters and authoritarianism, over-policing and censorship where it’s not wanted.
The ship is sinking and noones in control but complaining is a thoughtcrime
