you got three basic threat levels: goons, goblins and spooks. goons are just some assholes you want to docks you, they can be defeated through simple opsec. goblins are more advanced operators, but still have limited resources. Spooks are nation states and similar actors

if you're worried about spooks, you better go fully dark, because their ability to surveil you is only limited by their budget. This includes megacorps. Facebook keeps "shadow profiles" on people Do they know exist but don't have an account. Your friend's phone snitching on you

oh, let's not forget the fourth level: superintelligence. a future superintelligence will be able to hack into all of your communications, as long as they survive bit rot. All forms of encryption will be defeated in the long term
