Kinda feels like the revelation that sensor tracks showing objects that break physics have popped up more and more as our sensor technology improves should trigger a bit more prior reevaluation among smart people than it has.

Swap out bio-aliens for AI machine/drone alien tech, assume the mass production/replication an advanced civ should be capable of, mix in the strategic imperative of surveilling the galaxy for wayward primitives toying with paperclip maximisers and it doesn’t seem that surprising

Not suggesting the above is the simplest explanation obviously - but lots of people swinging Occam’s Razor around as though it meant “the most boring explanation relative to my culture’s understanding and expectations of the world in Current Year is the correct one”
Including me, essentially, but it's a nice concept for sure. The utterly weird, variant behaviour is what gets me though.
