SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet has 500,000 pre-orders and the installation is entirely DIY. It comes with a tripod and that’s it...you’re just supposed to chuck it in your yard and then drill a hole in your house to get the wires in.

I dont, I just think society can afford to organize it's resources in a way to get people internet in a way that doesn't fuck up our ability to understand our place in the universe

Everything has trade offs - either we use satellites with min resources and impact ground based astronomy or we dig trenches across the planet for wired internet and use max resources with max environmental impact - you choose

We also risk Kessler syndrome which directly conflicts with your lord musk's goal of an interplanetary species (which I actually agree with, he's just too dumb to pull it off)

I couldn’t give a toss about musk personally, swap him in or out for anyone else. I care about actual outcomes and what’s feasible. I *promise* you from the bottom of my soul that the person of musk and your dislike of him is motivating your argument more than it is mine
That's simply not true (from the bottom of my soul). I dont like musk but I do truly believe (from the bottom of my soul) that spacex development of reusable rockets is one of the most important things humanity has ever done
