SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet has 500,000 pre-orders and the installation is entirely DIY. It comes with a tripod and that’s it...you’re just supposed to chuck it in your yard and then drill a hole in your house to get the wires in.

Everything has trade offs - either we use satellites with min resources and impact ground based astronomy or we dig trenches across the planet for wired internet and use max resources with max environmental impact - you choose

Cool, I agree. Astrophysics & space exploration has yielded an incredible number of scientific advancements that have helped society. Hurting our ability to do that for money isn't great
