There is a subset of the SF techie scene that I call the Robot Lords -- people who work in A.I. and are absolutely convinced that A.I. is going to render most humans economically obsolete, except for a small sliver of supergeniuses who program the A.I.

Yes. At this point the belief that A.I. will replace almost all human beings is a lot of faith combined with a hefty dash of chauvinism.

I have to think this hype is largely driven by funding motivations. The addage is: “It’s called ‘Artificial Intelligence’ when you’re fundraising, ‘Machine Learning’ when you’re recruiting... and simple logistic regression when implementing.”
