In the long run, is China really going to be able to keep centrally controlling all these different areas by force? The natural end-state might be to have a number of its ethnic or linguistic minority regions break away.

I mean, maybe they'll succeed forever, but it'll take massive resources and effort, and it seems like almost everyone include most Mandarin-speaking Han Chinese, would be better off if they let them go. Or they could become a federation, but they don't seem to want that.
