I think the reason there's a hugely disproportionate amount of people in infosec whom love and/or own guns [even those highly left leaning] is that we already understand the gravity of a 'worst case scenario', and that they can, do, and will happen when you least expect it.

Too real. There's a huge disconnect on this up here in Canada. People have no problem disarming legal gun owners, citing "we are safer without them, nobody *needs* a firearm.", when the reality is our peaceful life hinges on a fragile equilibrium that could collapse any second.
