In general I don’t think our institutions are significantly worse than they were in previous decades, it’s that their promises (and expectations) have become higher, and their failings more visible.

20th century technology favored centralization. Mass media, mass production. So from ~1933-1969, the USG had tech talent. As you go forwards and backwards in time from 1950, things get more decentralized. Today press & state don't have enough tech talent.

Yeah I have no idea what the basis for this tweet is. Trust in government has been collapsing for the last 50 years. And Trump has managed to shatter people's already low expectations.
