How one self-taught developer bounced back after serving a 12-year prison sentence. 16 years later, he's sober, working as a developer, and living the American dream with a wife, daughter, and house. More proof that people can recover from pretty much anything with time and ♥️.

I think it’s time for me to tell my full story. It might lose me some followers but so be it.

I'm thrilled to hear freeCodeCamp has been a helpful resource for you as you re-entered the workforce. Teachers from prison systems often email me about helping their people learn to code. You may have some thoughtful perspectives on this - could I put them in touch with you?

Yes absolutely. Trying to do something similar myself. One funny story is I built an inventory system for the prison in Access. They made a correctional officer sit and watch me the entire time. 😂 One day he looked at me and said, “you’re here for hacking aren’t you?” 😜

That is indeed hilarious. I imagine you have a ton of stories like this one. I encourage you to write more about them. America seems to have reached a turning point in how we view criminal justice / rehabilitation and you should be part of that discussion.
