My first conference talk was rejected by @BlackHatEvents, and I was crushed. @dakami was one of the only “famous” hackers (who’d spoken at both BH and DEFCON) I knew personally at the time, so I asked him if he would speak at DEFCON if he’d been rejected from BH (He’d also earlier helped me to connect with the RIM security team through connections). 3/?Prikaži ovu nit -

I accepted the slot at defcon, and gave my first talk “Blackjacking, 0wning the Enterprise via the Blackberry” (I know “...jacking”

I also got to talk with FX at Defcon, who said he liked my research, and he wasn't sure why it wasn't accepted (again, I'd convinced myself that he thought it was dumb, and so it probably was). 6/?

Lessons: - Don't assume a rejection means your work isn't good - Fight the tendency to assume people you respect don't respect you - You're likely your biggest critic, prove yourself wrong ... 7/8

Pretty sure I was on the board then too, and pretty sure FX never went near the mobile track submissions, regardless of what he was doing on his own at the time. So probably Hanlon's razor.
