On Jan 29th Lancet paper by doctors found 11 out of 99 patients died. On Jan 31st another Lancet paper by HK experts estimates 75K people infected as of Jan 25th. Given massive uncertainty, can the Australian medical authority please be more precautionary?!

Who to trust about ? Doctors at the front line > Airlines with something to lose > Bureaucrats who claim that ‘there is no cause for public concern’ but won’t be personally liable for ‘unexpected’ events.

What's the truth? Today, Australian medical authorities still believe that asymptomatic transmission is unlikely, given limited observed evidence. Yet, everybody in HK/Taiwan, with an insider understanding of Chinese culture, are wearing masks if they can get one.

There is ‘no evidence’ until there is. Sure enough, there are now 4 human to human cases in Germany. If risk assessment change everyday then obviously you have no idea, and that severe precautionary measures are needed.

The Dean of Medicine at HKU, Prof. Leung projects 150k cases a day by April. Shocking that the Chief Medical Officer of Australia, Prof. Murphy claims that “There is no evidence of human to human transmission in Australia”, that “there is no need to wear masks”.

Not the time for PC. As someone with a Chinese heritage, I don’t think Chinese people would be offended by respectful precautionary health checks / quarantine at the Australian borders. We can’t help the Chinese people, if the whole world is sick.

If the situation wasn’t alarming, would China have quarantined 50M people in cities, suspended schools, and cancelled all overseas tourism?

Australia, an island with 25M people, has the most cases in the western world. Yet, on Jan 28th, Aussie experts said no need to wear masks, virus unlikely to spread without symptoms, contradicting the Chinese health authorities who have access on the ground.

Top Prof from Beijing got 11 days after telling everyone don’t be alarmed. Top SARS expert, Yi Guan was scared for the 1st time, and left Wuhan the next day. Yet, in Australia, Prof. Sorell said today it's ok to go to school after return from China, if no symptom.

Possibilities usually jump from 0 to 1. I didn’t care to think of a week ago. Now 50 million people in China are in quarantine lockdown.

Using constellations as mnemonics, humans could remember stories for thousands of years. Today we save memories in the cloud. In the past, people save memories in the stars.

Easy life hack: Be friendly with service staff, get happy vibes and free offers all day. Height of stupidity: Asking for help rudely, get shit deals, put on hold and spit in the food. All without realising it.

100 years ago, humans only knew one galaxy, our Milky Way. The second galaxy, Andromeda was discovered in the 1920s. But now astronomers think there are 100+ billion galaxies, maybe a trillion. From 1 to 2 to a trillion. There are more possibilities than the mind can imagine.

If it’s possible for savant like skills to emerge after a head injury, there must be a brain stimulation protocol that can enable extraordinary skills. What if we can effortlessly rewire our brain to access different superpowers.

It’s funny how the pursuit of efficiency can lead to inefficiency. But playing with something new can lead to the most practical technologies. Both strategies can work. Different lifestyles.

Most progress in history is the result of unexpectedly positive sum games. If humans only engage in zero sum games, we would still be in caves, fighting over scraps.

With crude telescope prototypes, Galileo was able to discover Jupiters’ moons, suggesting that the Earth was not the centre of the Universe. What we lack is not expensive tools, but courageous imaginations.
