  1. TV Tropes is simultaneously useful and incredibly frustrating to read.
  2. Are crappy amendments like the Hyde and Stupak amendments more likely to pass when Democrats are in power, or does it just seem that way?
  3. I'd forgotten that Hungarian Phrasebook, Communist Quiz and Spam are all part of the same Python episode. One of the better eps, for sure.
  4. I've said this before but I really feel sorry for the PC in the Mac-vs-PC ads. He's like the Trix Rabbit: I'd like to see him win just once.
  5. Man, this run of SOUTH PARK has not been very good. And I'm pretty indulgent of the show, generally.
  6. It's incredible how many comic books circa 1966 have an ad for a personally-autographed David McCallum life-sized pinup. He was real popular
  7. @Memles Didn't mean to cause anxiety. That's a decade ago and my application stank. You're good at academic-style (but accessible) writing.
  8. @Memles @tvoti The lack of a robot sidekick was unquestionably why I got turned down for PHd work. They said otherwise, but they were lying.
  9. With all the comic book movies, isn't it time to make movies from the ads? The weakling who goes to Charles Atlas would make a great movie.
  10. When Nick Counter's death was announced http://bit.ly/13ol3L I immediately clicked over to see if Nikki Finke said anything yet. That's sad.
  11. Of course Hitchcock actually had a derisive name for people who try to point out plot holes in a movie; he called them "The Plausibles."
  12. But Carroll's character makes up for it by dismissing the villains' plot in two lines ("Importer/exporter of government secrets").
  13. The one thing I can't justify in NORTH BY NORTHWEST is that scene where Leo G. Carroll tells his staff what they already know. I mean, geez.
  14. And none of that actually matters, but they'd explain it anyway and the film would be 180 minutes.
  15. If they made NORTH BY NORTHWEST today they'd have to explain the George Kaplan ruse, why the police didn't know who the U.N. guy was, etc.
  16. Wonder how NORTH BY NORTHWEST plays in today's plot-hole-obsessed culture. Hitchcock doesn't care whether any of this is plausible.
  17. Anyone made a list of all the TV shows that've used the music-library song "Such a Good Night?" http://bit.ly/2cIrRp
  18. Little-known Chuck Jones short: "Quentin Quail," a Baby Snooks take-off (Writer Tedd Pierce voices the daddy). http://tinyurl.com/y956ufz
  19. Latest uncut WKRP episode (with commentary): "Hold-Up" http://bit.ly/2eMaqw
  20. Joker was 4th-best villain in '60s Batman TV; Riddler, Catwoman & Penguin all have influenced subsequent versions, Joker not so much.
