  1. Walking to my first day of submarine volcano thesis work at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Woods Hole, MA. Full update to come!
  2. On top of the world's tallest volcano - Mauna Kea. 13796 feet above sea level. Enjoying a Mauna Kea Pale Ale.

  4. Yesterday we sampled some 900 year old Mauna Loa lava. Today we'll be collecting lavas that are about 7000 & 4000 years old. Explanation ...
  5. Just landed in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. Flight to the island of Hawaii at 220 local time. The latest adventure begins!
  6. Also, I haven't forgotten about writing more on the Cascades volcanoes. I still need to remember to buy that darn Nikon camera cable...
  7. I just got word that I will be going back to the Big Island of Hawai`i to do more 36-Cl dating fieldwork in early August! YES!!!

  9. We're waking up at 5am to attempt to reach the summit of Mt. St. Helens. we're climbing the south side, opposite the 1980 blast. Hiked ...
  10. Ok, so apparently my picture updates didn't work! So much for that. I guess the pics will have to wait until get back to a computer.
  11. The eruption in 1980 was the first in 123 years & the volcano is still considered active. More fun facts later! I'll be hiking it on Monday.
  12. I visited Mt. St. Helens today & stopped at Johnston Ridge. The clouds were low, so the pics only show the bottom of the summit crater.
  13. We are in the Newberry Volcanic Field on the way to Mt. St. Helens.
  14. On the road to Lassen Peak, volcano #1! ETA 5:30 PST. Going to camp there tonight. Last eruption was 1913-1921 with the big one in 1914.
  15. Oh yeah, back in business. Time to go get my camera cleaned in preparation for the Cascade Range trip!
