  1. just got back from LateRide. not gonna do that again. too crowded. didn't get to enjoy the city because I was constantly watching for bikes.
  2. oh, tonight I'm doing the Late Ride http://lateride.org anybody else gonna do this short, scenic ride in Chicago? I'm in the 1st wave.
  3. pouring/smoothing 7-8 cubic yards of concrete today. 1 cubic yard weights about 4000 lbs. and that's the smaller half of the driveway.
  4. got the raccoon out of chimney without burning, the most disgusting thing I've ever done/seen. started fireplace just to sanitize it. #gross
  5. why am I ragging on fireplaces? because 1+ raccoon(s) died in my chimney, and my dad and I are trying to remove it. we might burn it out. :)
  6. and for swimming there is an awesome one 400 ft from my front door: http://bit.ly/EC3eA , high dives and deep.
  7. @reaperhulk a forest preserve near me has these huge fire 'pits'. my bike path passes them, on the weekends, people are always using them.
  8. my point being, public fireplaces and pools are superior and don't require maintenance. can't understand why you'd want an inferior expense.
  9. If I designed homes there would be no stupid shit like fireplaces or pools or other high maintenance, low reward things.
  10. @raykrueger other way around. NiN did the song, then Johnny Cash covered it. but I definitely think the Cash version is better.
  11. thankful for the rain. no pouring of concrete today. :)
  12. @raykrueger OMG, what a horrible interpretation of 'Welcome to the Jungle'. you wanna go see this guy in person? WTF?!?! ruining good songs.
  13. don't think my hands were meant for hard labor. after yesterday, I can't even write my name clearly. rest of body ok, but hands are not.
  14. renting a bobcat to level the driveway before pouring = $300 with taxes, insurance, delivery, etc. ok, back to work.
  15. for those doing the math, it's a bit under 13 cubic yards of concrete as the city code minimum, but we'll probably do 13-16 yards. $130/yard
  16. contractors wanted $8500, and we are doing it in a few days for around $2000, pretty sweet. busting a driveway with a sledgehammer = awesome
  17. something so great about physical work. redoing a 17'x61' driveway with my dad at a rental property. 4" deep of concrete pouring tomorrow.
  18. getting back into my healthy eating and exercise routine is gonna be hard. :( just fixing my sleep schedule is gonna take a week.
  19. good job JetBlue at JFK on having free and very fast internet access. makes up for my canceled flight and waiting for 2hrs.
  20. today is my last day in NYC. good time, but not nearly enough. going back soon for sure. this morning, Statue of Liberty before my flight :)
