  1. drat & darn. Lost TAFF auction for @nalohopkinson Tuckerization while at a biz dinner w/Japanese customers. But wagyu was GOOD.
  2. My daughter learned meaning of "Memento Mori" from Flyleaf album name. Of course, I read Beowulf after seeing it adapted as a DC comic.
  3. @malindalo try "pome" a mix of calvados & AJ, aged 9 years in oak casks. Normandy = good drinking & eating. I think aka pommeau, not sure.
  4. @kwnewton Lovely Bones: my 14 yr old daughter says yes. My wife says no. I haven't read it.
  5. Bought Boneshaker. Staff at Kepler's used Amazon to find author name. Being able to describe the cover is not useful in a bookstore.
  6. Saw some of Pete's Dragon. Art direction jarring. Lighting harsh. Like every outdoor scene shot at noon on a cloudless day. Yes, I'm visual.
  7. 5 lb beef knuckles & 4 kanto negi turn into 4 bowls of outrageous, non traditional miso soup. This is not efficient. But tasty.
  8. Wife reading Chabon's comic & SF references: Big Barda? Check. Jim Starlin's Warlock? Check. Niven's Ringworld? Check. Pulitzer? No luck.
  9. @kwnewton #ereader I wouldn't pay $400 for a Nook unless I wanted to reverse engineer it or do a teardown. & be 1st. To own? Just wait.
  10. I just generated my #TweetCloud out of a month of my tweets. Top three words: tokyo, wonderful, book - http://w33.us/pso
  11. @EmilyJiang also, Chicken gizzards are really good confit, too. (I use recipe from Fringale cookbook.)
  12. @EmilyJiang Confit is not hard, just time consuming. Salt, wait 1day, simmer in fat. I use olive oil if duck fat unavailable. Mmm.
  13. Great brand name: Wool & the Gang. Knitting supplies. http://bit.ly/7twPAG Up there with the Aqua Velvets http://bit.ly/92WGNa
  14. Xmas on Larkin: "$10 admission with a free toy" at New Century Theater. My son can't read yet so I don't have to explain.
  15. @mkazoo Vege version: smoke onion, simmer onion & carrot. Shiitake at end. Are you strict? Do you eat dashi?
  16. @mkazoo Came out great. Simmered carrots in broth, plucked out to eat separately. Carrots added sweetness. Added shiitake, ate as soup.
  17. http://twitpic.com/r47lb - Smoked beef broth with shiitake added at last moment. Oishii desu, if I do say so.
  18. http://twitpic.com/r473o - Smoked beef knuckle. Meat removed from bone after 12 hr simmer.(& onion)
  19. Mother in law is teaching our daughter to knit.
  20. Food in the oven: Yams, Cuban style roast pork, Tian aux Courgettes (a Provencal meatloaf thing with zucchini). Already cooked: cran sauce.
