  1. I think I need to put in another raised bed this year. Guess I'm borrowing my father's car to haul wood again!
  2. Cool and rainy today. Good for the garden, bad for my plans. Oh well.
  3. Didn't find many morels at all yesterday, but did come home with a basket full of ramps. Pickle them? Jelly? Decisions decisions.
  4. Steeping a scant quart jar of violets for jelly. Might go raid my parents yard for violets tomorrow. Need to pick dandelion blossoms too.
  5. New blog post: Cooking with Spring Wildflowers: Part 1 http://tinyurl.com/dekxk4
  6. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow- all 20+ over the average temps. This is insanity. Lettuce is not happy.

  8. SOOOO many volunteer tomato seedlings and brassica seedlings in the pea bed. Oof. I feel a little guilty about their impending doom.
  9. Thinking of building a few narrow salad tables, rather than taking up space in the raised beds with mesclun. Hmm...
  10. The robins are back, once again sizing up the corner of the porch as nesting real estate. Here's to hoping they're as friendly as last year!

  12. @compostman hoping this doesn't jinx me, but I've never had problems with BER despite everyone always talking about preventing it.
  13. Squirrels are trying to steal my shallots! Furry little thieves! Now to figure out how to discourage them...

  15. I think I need a compost tumbler. This bin dealie is just NOT doing it for me. AT ALL.
  16. upon checking out last years tomato bed, I found LOTS of volunteer 'maters, but also baby brassicas?! There weren't any there last year!
  17. @compostman hooray! did you get root, crown, or a started plant?
  18. nothing like a cool overcast evening to play around in the dirt and 40 gallons of rabbit poo. also planted out some more shallots.
  19. @compostman The hardest part (for me) is remembering to not harvest the first year, and only light harvest the second. Willpower!
  20. @compostman Yerp- they do like themselves some compost. I must say, rhubarb is my 'set it and forget it' crop. What a yummy crop it is too.
