  1. I would love to write about BCS (college football) rankings as a sociotechnical system - they are so complex, politicized, and computerized.
  2. GRE scores for 7 PhD programs = $140. What a racket. And I had to use a landline b/c my super-old phone kept crashing after 128 touch tones.
  3. Working on digital ethnography, with Marcus (1995) in mind. I think ethno has always been multi-sited - part of the relativist tradition.
  4. PhD apps. Getting the same anxiety as when prestige classing in D&D. How much of a XP hit will I take for interdisciplinary multiclassing?
  5. The @zotero citation plugin (http://is.gd/4UcZ5) is nice. Most cited item in my library is Foucault's Discipline & Punish - not surprising.
  6. They have afternoon coffee today! #4s09

  8. In the tech policy and NGOs panel. Morris: The engineers making far-reaching decisions always claim "We don't do policy!" #4s09
  9. Cohen: Focus should be on how these new architectures configure tractible users. Need to think of governance, not just government. #4s09
  10. Cohen: Autonomic technologies, the "unremarkable" techs that do everything for us -> new political econ around authorization regimes. #4s09
  11. Cohen: The unmarked dot in the center of Lessig's arch/market/law/norms diagram is the unacknowleged liberal subject. Recenter it. #4s09
  12. Cloyd: NASA's flight sims that encourage good brainwaves were turned into videogame therapy for ADHD - a biomedicalization of tech. #4s09
  13. Wellner: Butler's theories on Sex/Gender/Desire can be mapped to Hardware/Software/Information. #4s09
  14. Wellner: Don't ask if Google is making our brains stupid, ask how it is reconfiguring social fields and subjectivites. #4s09
  15. In the using info tech panel, Roosevelt room. Silvia and Swarts talking about how location is articulated in Twitter. #4s09
  16. People on the #4s09 code panels: I got delayed to the 6pm meeting at the bar - have you all gone somewhere else?
  17. Good question out of my #4s09 Code session: How do you as an ethnographer 'interview' software programs, robots, architectures?
  18. I'll be presenting "Where are the missng Wikipedians? Sociology of a Bot" in the "Code and STS" panel. Kennedy, 3rd floor. #4s09
  19. In the Quantitative Applications of Actor-Network Theory session. A lot of SNA and citation analysis used to prove ANT concepts. #4s09
  20. Looks like the Social Studies of Science hashtag is #4s09, not #4s. Just landed at DCA, hope I won't miss too much of the 6pm plenary.
