  1. Ranger and lost hikers back in the Abrams Falls parking lot. Looks like they will all be home tonight safe and sound.
  2. 2 acres fire along the Blue Ridge Parkway has spread outside the boundary with moderate potential for growth.
  3. This is wildfire season and a fire was just reported along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fire crews are on route.
  4. @StephanieT313 ...and then Demand Media will blame their failure on the economy..
  5. @FlashlightGuy I carry 2 headlamps and a hand held crank flashlight in case the batteries go. Well worth the extra ounces.
  6. @roveg I don't pack but I have 2 reflective foil blankets + 1 foil sleeping bag in my day pack. Never count on GPS!
  7. Do you hike with a flashlight + whistle? Bet the hikers lost near Cades Cove wish they had one now. Search still on.
  8. New Garmin 60csx is on the way to me. Has anyone used the Topo US VS Topo Regional 100k? GSMNP is not in 24k!
  9. Getting dark soon and rain tonight RT @gsmnp Rangers sent to find lost hikers off trail in Cades Cove.
  10. Red oaks still showing some fall color but in very spoty areas. This is the last weekend for any color whatsoever.
  11. it's a perfect 68 degree day and i'm hiking in the Greebrier Section of the GSMNP. Surprisingly quiet today.
  12. Just finished "the river" which I've never seen before. Made me think of the original residents of the GSMNP and Fontana.
  13. Awesome day yesterday hiking and doing a tree survey in the GSMNP, a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and then 3 short hours with the elk

  15. On my way to Smokemont NC to join a tree survey so we can be even more prepared to protect GSMNP ash trees.

  17. The sound of tan and red leaves being crushed by my feet as I hike is deafening to me in these silent woods.
  18. Remembering the last time I hiked this trail was during our firefly season...I even saw a "blue ghost" that night.
  19. I see 3 wild turkey in the woods right now. Guess I should bring a big zoom lens along with me.
  20. Decided to hike the historic Ols Sugarlands Trail. Bringing night vision so I won't be in a rush to return.
