  4. Working on starting services to nine new families that came to us from Families Moving Forward. We are excited to carry on the work.
  5. White privilege allows those who are white to not have to think about it. Yesterday all staff focused on how "privilege" affects our work.
  6. Simpson Family Housing Summer BBQ tonight. Weather rainy and cool, but still a fun and uplifting event. Thanks Cargill, for the food.

  8. One of our families is receiving a car from the St. Michael Kiwanis Club. No more borrowing a car for work, dr. appts, and school functions.
  9. The McKinney-Vento Reauthorization was signed into law May 20th. Expands definition of who is homeless to increase prevention & re-housing!
  10. Health care cut for over 30,000 of MN's poorest vulnerable citizens. Call the Gov.'s office to have your voice heard. The cost is too great!
  11. Worrying about the next few days at the state capitol. Will homeless people bear the brunt of cuts to balance the budget?
  12. Unwrapping another great new volunteer opportunity: ESL instructor for the Men's Shelter. Looks like a lot of fun!
  13. We signed on to What We Mean By Housing: a letter to Congress on the importance of funding for housing for people with the lowest incomes.
  14. Staff are at Project Homeless Connect at the Mpls. Convention Ctr. It is a one-stop shop of services for people experiencing homelessness.
  15. We received a United Way grant of $60,000 to support our work helping K-3rd graders read. Education helps break the cycle of homelessness.
  16. Simpson Housing's men's shelter guests are served a fabulous chicken alfredo with garlic bread by volunteers from Capella University. Yum!
  17. Madd Joe's BBQ signed up to provide dinner at the Family Housing program next week. Simpson Housing volunteers are amazing!
  18. Just signed a check for another woman to move into housing today. One less person on the street tonight in Minneapolis.
  19. We are excited about the enormous response to our Mother's Day appeal to raise funds for the women's shelter and women's housing.
  20. Providence Academy completed half of their cereal drive for the shelters. 100 boxes collected so far and General Mills will match! Yay!
