  1. Just finished Shackletons book, Heart of the Antarctic. An excellent read, full of information vital to my plans for next year
  2. Teddy Evans is doing a grand job running the office in Victoria street and with Sir Clements behind us we are really making progress
  3. So the American, Peary and the German, Filchner both want the South Pole. Well, we'll see.
  4. September 13 - The main object of the expedition is to reach the South Pole and secure for the British Empire the honour of that achievement
  5. I am sure you will wish me success; but of course I should be glad to have your assurance that I am not disconcerting any plans of your own
  6. Letter to Shackleton: If it does not cut across plans of your own, I propose to organise an expedition to the Ross Sea to start next year
  7. Before other countries can take credit of the results of these great works of Mr Shackleton, this country should organise another expedition
  8. I managed to see Shackleton today, just back in London, "Bravo" I said. He got within 97 miles of the pole, a great achievement.

  10. Ever since Sir Edward (Grey) made his comments in parliament at the end of March my department has been buzzing. Will we get the ships?
  11. The Admiral (Sir Francis Bridgeman) is keeping me busy but so many things are going through my mind, Shackleton, The Pole, and kathleen.
  12. Planning a scientific expedition to explore Antarctica and discover the South Pole. I hope to set sail in 1910. God Willing.
