rlewallen

had to miss the retrospective today, so my team decided not to have one. WTF!?!?!

rlewallen @derickbailey absolutely. Some people just don't get that though.
rlewallen @chadmyers should never occur in a production app to begin with. Where is the performance hit?
rlewallen @chadmyers I know how to apply them. I'm just wondering why people keep saying using them is crappy on performance when an exception...
rlewallen @IDisposable I didn't know that. Awesome.
rlewallen @lozanotek hit in a real world app?
rlewallen @lozanotek correct. And for it to have impact, we are talking an immense amount of blocks, which isn't practical, so where is the perf ...
rlewallen @chadmyers naturally, and that setup would have to occur ALOT, and since its not practical to wrap every line, where is the hit against perf
rlewallen @shanselman ah. frustrated.
rlewallen @shanselman bored?
rlewallen what is the performanc impact of wrapping every line of code in a try..catch, when an exception will never be caught?
rlewallen @chadmyers have you built any using IR yet?
rlewallen I should go through the comments approval process for my blog more often than every 6 weeks.
rlewallen @steveschoon I'm a blood boiler. Its true. You should see my basement.
rlewallen @coderdad oh. maybe i misunderstood your comment. You were agreeing that using them as conditionals should require ppl to be cut and bled
rlewallen @coderdad so coding them should have little effect at all on the performance of a production system
rlewallen @coderdad exceptions are about "exceptional" circumstances that should never occur in production code
rlewallen @coderdad what example can you give that would lead a conditional business logic code to execute into an exception as part of the logic?
rlewallen people who say you should avoid using exceptions because it causes a performance hit should be drawn and quartered.
