  1. @michaelbushe ...but the positives of micro-credit lending seem to far outweigh the points I've seen raised against it (at least so far)
  2. @michaelbushe Yes I've seen similar critiques. I think nearly all micro-credit bodies charge significant interest, including Grameen...
  3. @pragdave "seems to install every single line of open source code ever written" port install *anything* seems to do that - I gave up on it
  4. Just made another two #Kiva loans: http://bit.ly/79igfn. No need to brave the shops: give someone a Kiva gift certificate for Christmas :-)
  5. Just erased the hard disk. I think that's the first time I've done that - well, deliberately anyway. Almost fun in an anarchic sort of way.
  6. Zombie macbook still backing up. I planted a christmas bush (http://bit.ly/8FqK8R) in the front yard today so at least one useful thing done
  7. Crashed the new macbook. Usual magic keystrokes and incantations can't revive it. Booted off DVD and backing up before (gulp) erase/install
  8. The koels are still calling incessantly round here. I saw a beautiful fledgling in a street tree yesterday. http://bit.ly/814fdk
  9. Spent the afternoon massaging ginormous shapefiles on my little macbook. GeoTools vs 2Gb shapefile... GeoTools undefeated so far.
  10. @ByLeavesWeLive "When you almost accidentally choose a turkish delight, and swap to a praline at the last moment" = choco-epanorthosis
  11. Test Driven Design. My knee-jerk response was "dumb fad". But Lasse Koskela's book (http://bit.ly/8HfYy9) might be turning me into a convert
  12. @ByLeavesWeLive: "is embarrassingly bad" I haven't seen the poem but, dear me, what a snide little column. Tall poppy syndrome.
  13. @plu: "1.51 for the entrance half marathon today" That's a really terrific run - well done !
  14. RT @guardianbooks: "Adrian Mole: The Prostrate Years by Sue Townsend http://bit.ly/90Xo86" - Time to renew the old friendship with Adrian
  15. Harvested this season's first tomato from the vege garden. It's amazing how happy a tomato can make you feel :-)
  16. @pragmaticandy um, showing your age there (as this response shows mine)
  17. @pragmaticandy (don't imagine I'm the first to say this but) would you really want to eat them ?
  18. @ByLeavesWeLive Lovely news - congratulations ! You're a most deserving prize winner. Poetic justice :-)
  19. I just generated a #TweetCloud out of a year of my tweets. Top three words: poem, poetry, running - http://w33.us/53sg
  20. Jack Underwood's 'Weasel' is @FaberBooks poem of the week http://bit.ly/Wv0pv (via @ByLeavesWeLive) - Short, scrumptious and very sexy poem.
