  1. Hello new followers. @g_willow welcome to the 'verse. Resistance was futile after all.
  2. Despite myself, I'm liking her book. There's something raw about it. But then, any telling of personal experience in Afghnstan tends to be.
  3. More on Ms. Chayes' book: her biases are obvious, but honest. She admits to the possibility of being wrong. She's not dispassionate either.
  4. You can kinda tell Sarah Chayes was a radio reporter. She has a sort of 'descriptive' style that I associate with NPR.
  5. There's something oddly satisfying about watching the output from a compile. Very Matrixy.
  6. Gah. The Kamran review is overdue. Must finish that this week. But the Sarah Chayes book is sooo interesting.
  7. @ASLANmedia wait a second. Your book isn't out till April 21. Gasp! Iran is now involved in (shudder) literary espionage?!?
  8. The site may be calm right now, but the world is not. 22 die in suicide attack in Pak. http://bit.ly/1MJxIh
  9. Whew. The site's kinda calm now. Everyone seems to be taking a deep breath as they survey the carnage. That was an interesting phase.
  10. We really have come full circle. The ancient Egyptians had hieroglyphics, we have emoji.
  11. @kutti wow. Nice. So what are you now, if you don't mind deeply personal questions on spirituality from strangers :-)?
  12. @kutti It's a case of the patriarchal status-quo going up against its worst nightmare: a strong woman. Or, you know, they're just jerks.
  13. Book done. Next up: review.
  14. Almost done with Kamran Pasha's book. Review should be online this weekend. Book is out April 14. Verdict so far: Worth a Read.
  15. Is Aisha the kind of figure you can't write about, even in novel form, without revealing your own theological/historical beliefs/leanings?
  16. I really wish I had a digital copy of the Pasha book. I'd be done reading it by now and I'd be doing the review. Ah well.
  17. Reading about Aisha in a novel form told in the first person is a distinctly uncomfortable affair.
  18. @ASLANmedia congratulations on the defense and the new book. Trying to finish Kamran Pasha's book in time to read/review yours when it's out
  19. Whew, this ongoing thing on the site about Ismailism is exhausting. Can we change the topic now please?
  20. Few more pages of the Pasha book. Somewhat bemused by the whole Ismaili debate on the site. Sheesh.
