  1. I just said no to the Comcast-NBC merger! http://bit.ly/1WciqP #NoMerger (via @freepress)
  2. @tuxradar Because the last thing I want to see is a very non critical error from SMART showing up on my desktop.
  3. @tuxradar My three second review: Slackware tops them all in terms of performance.
  4. @tuxradar No other distribution does this, and my laptop runs just fine.
  5. @tuxradar IMO, Fedora is a perfectionist. Too many hardware checks, especially when it reports a faulty HD on a FOUR MONTH OLD laptop!
  6. After installing Slackware, I have installed VirtualBox and QEMU with the KQEMU module for installation of other operating systems.
  7. IMO, Slackware is the most efficient Linux distribution, and absolutely flies on my Toshiba laptop, even with KDE 4.2!
  8. Also, with Slackware, you can mix Slackware packages (*.tgz and *.txz) with source packages (*.tar.gz and *.tar.bz2) and everything works.
  9. ...so only one package needs to be downloaded instead of two per software package.
  10. Another thing I like about Slackware is that packages for Slackware already include the development headers...
  11. Slackware is also the best performer when it comes to Wi-Fi connectivity, especially when I use "wicd" instead of Network Manager.
  12. On my Toshiba laptop, Slackware is by far the fastest performing distribution of all distributions I have tried.
  13. Then, I tried the Slackware 13.0 distribution on the other side of the DVD-ROM.
  14. Though Kubuntu is a great OS, there were some problems with availability of *-devel packages for KDE 4.3.
  15. So far, it has taken me two and a half hours to install what I consider to be essentials to my laptop.
  16. It was simply a matter of reconfiguring the repositories to everything available to Ubuntu.
  17. ...and some of them include an updated kernel, hence the need to reboot.
  18. When this update is finished, I will need to reboot as there are 104 packages to be installed...
  19. I am now running Synpatic to install updates to this version.
  20. What I installed was a special KDE 4.3 version of Kubuntu 9.04 provided by LinuxPro Magazine. I absolutely love this version.
