  3. Be safe! Extinguish candles after use. NEVER leave burning candles unattended. Never leave the house with candles burning.
  4. Avoid using lighted candles, if possible. Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets. Use matches, lighters, and fire carefully.
  5. Be safe! Always use properly sized extension cords. Never overload circuits. Never run electrical cords under carpets or through doorways.
  6. Do not connect more than three light strands together. Outside, use only lights rated for outdoor use.
  7. Only use UL approved holiday lights. Carefully inspect lights and cords before use. Do not use damaged light strands.
  8. Saw off a portion of tree trunk and place tree in water. Check the water level daily. Add water. Do not place tree close to heat sources.
  9. Dry Christmas trees significantly increase fire risk Always select a fresh tree. Bend a few needles. If they break, the tree is too dry.
  10. Keep ovens clean to reduce the risk of fire. If oven or microwave fire occurs, keep the door closed. This will starve the fire of oxygen.
  11. Be safe! In case of fire, slide a cover onto the pot or pan from the side. Do not use water, baking soda, or salt to extinguish the fire.
  12. Be safe! Never leave cooking unattended. Always turn pot and pan handles inward to prevent spill injuries.
