@ Sometimes, though, those tools are a hitter's worst enemy. Seen it happen over and over. Inge when he came up classic example

@ Just my opinion, but Pujols is a classic example of what I'm talking about. He wasn't made by a hitting instructor.

@ I think it's a facsinating debate. Why can't Lloyd breakdown pitchers. Been in game forever. Pretty fair hitter himself in the day

@ Magglio lost his tools. That was obvious. Granderson will hit in NY. Better lineup. Horrible home numbers, good road ones in '09

@ Best hitters don't think too much about mechanics. They study pitchers and pitch patterns. Really good ones think merely see ball.

@ There is some function there. Breakddown pitchers. Check out obvious flaws. Be a sounding board. Hit fungos. Throw BP.

@ Cabrera recogizes pitches. Inge doesn't. Cabrera doesn't have to know what is coming to hit it. Inge must guess right

@ It's like patience at the plate. It can't be coached. You either recognize pitches or you don't.

@ Understands that about scources. Good stuff you have. Just saying about hitting coaches and their role. Overrated, in my opinion.

@ Talk to the best hitters. Slumps come and go and they have no idea, really, why. Sometimes they don't hit for a week - then hit.

@ There is a fraction of a second between the ball leaving a pitchers hand and arriving at plate. Ultimate reaction skill.

@ It was like when McClendon was getting all that credit for Inge's hot start. Total B.S.

@ Hitting coach is the utlimate scapegoat position. You can either hit or you can't. Like you can run or you can't.

@ No doubt McClendon is Leyland's buddy, but what have hitters in Toledo done so well. And wasn't he Magglio's hitting coach in '07?
