  6. Thom: Disagree - everyone in this room is an international librarian (well, not UK delegates) - people who have gone beyond their borders

  11. Michael Casey: in public library, just want something that works like Google
  12. Thom: how many people ever used boolean searching? Google never tried to teach boolean. Go read 'Ambient Searching'
  13. Thom: most people don't actually want to be librarians. We tend to think they ought to be better at searching etc.
  14. Are we first line or second line support - do we only intervene when the user has reached failure on their own
  15. Now - What do librarians need to change to ensure they have a role in next gen libraries
  16. Have to start demanding the products we need - but need to do it together
  17. We've come to accept bandaids - some of which are really nice - but not longterm solution
  18. Federated search sucks
  19. Library acting together have large amount of resource and power - but they don't use it
  20. Open Source growing - eg Evergreen. But does not handle all requirements. Will it ever get there?
