  1. Major medical condition?; create a mini filing system for the myriad of papers to come (test results, Dr meeting notes, resources, etc.
  2. If you use a bookkeeper for your accounting, have a PO work with them & your CPA to set up a filing system for paid bills/receipts
  3. When you talk to a customer service rep about a problem, note the date, name/ emp ID#/call center on the bill, in case they don't follow up
  4. Looking for a place to store those pony tail holders; try a doorknob on the back of a door near where you prep your hair
  5. When you buy a new travel book for a destination, check your existing travel books & weed out the older version for that destination.
  6. When sorting thru clutter, avoid "mindless saving". I'll ask "how will you use that?" (so I know where to put it) & they often don't know
  7. Make sure your spouse knows where critical documents are in case something happens to 1 of you. This is often not the case in my experience
  8. If planning a decorating project & you're clipping magazine ideas to show your interior designer, organize clips in a binder sorted by room
  9. Plan what's going into a bin & measure the area it will be placed in/on, before buying it; otherwise you'll likely end up with bin clutter.
  10. Try not to buy gifts in advance without knowing who'll be receiving them. Inevitably you'll end up with gift clutter; I see it all the time
  11. If you run a small business & keep records manually, it's hard to recover from a disaster. Keep electronic records & back-up daily off site
  12. Store extra tall tapered candles in a tall vase on a shelf; protects them from getting broken & uses no additional space
  13. @parislove1 Yes you can accept any freebie you'll use, love or need. Just the other ones should be passed on:)
  14. For the gals, keep a container of cosmetic samples near where you apply make up & try one per day so that they don't acumulate endlessly.
  15. Constantly shifting priorities at work from a boss/client? Identify the root source of "henny penny syndrome" to lessen the fire-fighting
  16. Create a travel toiletry bag that's ready to go, with travel size toiletries. Periodically refresh contents. Store it in your suitcase.
  17. Finding the balance between filing category names that are too broad vs. too specific is the "art" of designing a file system; PO's can help
  18. Use consistent electronic file naming conventions (eg, Chase Bank Statement 5-09), making it easier to find related files; just change date
  19. If someone is giving an item away for free, don't feel compelled to take it. If you don't need or want it, it just becomes clutter.
