  1. @tweakt I'm oldschool, I guess. Can't live without sloppy focus. (Don't like windows raising, tho.)
  2. @discorobot fancy new HP Pavillion with 8gigs of ram and quad-core something something.
  3. @alanstevens thanks a ton. I was resigned to crappy AdSweep, but AdBlock makes Chrome perfect.
  4. @underpope at this point, all I miss is Compiz's wobbly windows. Kind of sad, really. Windows windows feel so... rigid.
  5. @underpope really, though, I'm very impressed at how much nicer the Windows experience is than it was last time... in 1996.
  6. @underpope course I've got cygwin and X and all sorts of other crazy UNIX crap installed now, so it may become doubly insane at any point.
  7. @underpope botched Ubuntu wrote my chromeOS .iso, not to /dev/sdd like I told it, but to /dev/hda instead. So my /home got hosed w/ the rest
  8. @underpope the most painful part of the transition is my pride. I feel like a luser. (But I swear less!)
  9. @underpope I've been on Windows 7 about a week, and all the software I want is avail, and in many cases better. OpenOffice sucks waaay less.
  10. @underpope was buying a new machine anyway, and realized I don't want to research drivers, buy parts or assemle them. I let HP and MS do it.
  11. @underpope I've never had a clean ubuntu update, and the last one was doubly botched as a result of updating botched updates.
  12. @underpope mental health. I just don't want to dick around anymore to get things to work right. In 1996 it was fun. It's not anymore :(
  13. AdBlock in Chrome is nice. There are a crap-ton of Chrome extensions now, willing to make Chrome as slow as Firefox: http://bit.ly/4FSDPV
  14. Linux -> Windows 7 migration tip: Control Panel> Ease of Access Settings>>Change How Your Mouse Works, check 'Activate window by hovering'
  15. @alanstevens is there a Chrome AdBlock port? I'm using AdSweep, but it's not that effective...
  16. @lyzadanger the Bose over-the-ear ones I mention are unbelievably light and comfy. Try 'em at best buy or something; I bet you'll like 'em.
  17. @Southworth I like Brizzly quite a bit. It flakes when Twitter does, and autorefresh times out if you aren't clicking, but pretty nice.
  18. @brian_means I gave blood, too... to my doctor.
  19. @travisbell our video runs thru a 50ft vga cable up to a 37" lcd that's up on opposite wall of dark bedroom. Quality changes are negligable.
  20. @lyzadanger they aren't "noise canceling" but the Bose over-ear models sound great and block lots. http://yfrog.com/1dnvdxj
