  1. I've been avoiding learning the ins and outs of Vista security; but may have to. We've gotten calls lately by people who are locked out.
  2. Madison Nonprofit Day, @nonprofitday, is promoting videos about and by Madison's nonprofits http://sn.im/n8a1j A growing collection.
  3. @sonyajk It's a folly argument. Removing tax NPO breaks just means that you'll eventually pay for the services you didn't think you used.
  4. @sonyajk You get the tax relief afforded to you by law. People consider it unfair because they freq. undervalue the services they get.
  5. @creamcity I do think for-profit arms of nonprofits should pay taxes. And yes, health industry is big industry w/npo label.
  6. @creamcity So the number is based off of % of land used or own, or on the actual number of NPOs in Milwaukee? I just trying to relate 33%.
  7. @creamcity Typically when a npo is large enough to have multiple business managers, like most for-profits; they act more like a for-profit.
  8. @creamcity Maybe your no. are skewed about % of npos in your city. Milwaukee's pretty large. Are you saying there's less than 15K business?
  9. @creamcity But typically, large, financially successful nonprofits that should have some tax burden, freq. do via their for-profit arms.
  10. @creamcity My thoughts, yes there are some that seek nonprofit status to avoid taxes—but not that many and the IRS weeds them out, mostly.
  11. @creamcity Sure some nonprofits could step up more, but so could most corporations; and they work actively to reduce their burden.
  12. @creamcity, @TheBusBandit Also consider most nonprofits don't own.
  13. @creamcity Losing those nonprofits due to inability to pay state property taxes, etc. Would freq. put cities in a worse crisis. 2/2
  14. @creamcity With the number of vital services that the cities and counties rely on nonprofits to provide—many safety net services… 1/2
  15. The LGMAA Program http://sn.im/n5rkz can help nonprofits complete strategic plan or plan project, etc. Alumni have a wide array of skills.
