  15. @vanishingcity original spelling, per OED, is Duffield, a town where the cloth was first made; -el/-le both attested in 19th cent. US/UK :D
  16. @vanishingcity I think either -el or -le is right; I've seen both, and and the OED gives both spellings. Relieved?
