How can someone rant about iPhone apps vs web apps when they've never written code for the iPhone and know nothing about the frameworks?

@ Totally agree. UX is not "eye candy". Speed & fluidity are paramount. The most polished iPhone apps would fail on the web.

@ You're still missing the gigantic advantage of native apps: the outstanding CocoaTouch API. Also, quality UX != eye candy. Argh.

@ It does that now if you're anywhere in the timeline except all the way at the top, but yeah, it'll be a preference.

And I should mention Beak sucks at the scrolling test too which is why I rewrote it all and am working on the 1.0 version.

@ Using new code base is around 30%, old (current) depends on how many tweets in timeline so could be up to 60%.

Also interesting: while scrolling through timeline CPU usage peaks at 55% in Echofon. Tweetie's is 25%. Twitterrific is 90%. (27" iMac C2D.)

@ Yeah, no clue. I classdumped the app and they wrote A LOT of code to get link hovers to work within an NSTableView. TONS o' code.

Echofon for Mac is interesting. They wrote all custom code for the timeline views/cells but still left it looking boring. Hmm.

@ Yeah, some type of popup where you chose API-based RT or non-API which would let you type in some editorial. Good idea :)
