  1. An evening with Year 3 for their sleepover at school. Brings back memories of boarding duty.
  2. Dress rehearsal time for the leavers' play.
  3. Making a start on proofreading this year's reports. This is going to take some time...
  4. At school for the summer fête. Good day for it.
  5. Long time, no tweet. Been snowed under with work for yesterday's Presentation Afternoon - went very well; widely regarded as a great success
  6. #CAS09 "Computer programming is a powerful tool for children to 'learn leaning' that is to learn the skills of thinking and problem solving"
  7. #CAS09 Other tools: GeomLab, Kara (finite state machine), Kodu (Xbox, program via the gamepad!), rapunsel, , gamestar mechanic
  8. #CAS09 StarLogo TNG (semi open licence) - building block interface again, lends itself to modelling exercises (KS3 curriculum).
  9. #CAS09 Alice- serious programming, but no syntax worries, big step up from gamemaker because 3D. Roger says not really useable before KS4.
  10. #CAS09 Gamemaker- looks great and motivting, but isn't open source and only runs on Windows :-(
  11. @iusher Thnks Ian; looks great. Posted it on #osschools early this morning ;-)
  12. #CAS09 Watching Alan Kay's TED talk on Squeak eToys. Now moving on to Scratch- connections with Mindstorms too.
  13. #CAS09 Proganimate : constructs the code (in various languages) from a flowchart. Allows you to watch variables.
  14. @Emmadw there's a list of some in the Computing at Schools google group; you'd need to register though. I'll email you Roger's list later.
  15. #CAS09 logo - visual environment allows children to see the program working; but variables and syntax are barriers; even worse with VB!
  16. #CAS09 Roger Davies on a huge range of free tool for teaching programming; starting with LightBot
  17. #CAS09 Simon Peyton-Jones talking about Computing at Schools: possible launch of UK CSTA... Not to replicate support for ICT teachers
  18. @andylockran Moodle gives more control over data and functionality, is used worldwide and across all phases. Excellent support network. Free
  19. #CAS09 Greenfoot programming competition, online gallery, freely distributable code: really nice way to introduce students to open source!
  20. #CAS09 You choose the level of abstraction the students are exposed to by preparing scenarios in advance: teacher creates, students develop
