@ I like the TNIV. It is my normal, everyday Bible - next to, of course, the NA27 ;-) I'd go with TNIV over NIV.

@ NLT is gets the mix right: closer to the text than Message, but more readable than NIV/ESV/NRSV/NASB/NA27/UBS4/LXX, etc

@ I would NOT go with ESV for HS students because at some point they will read Luke 17:35 -look it up in an ESV and you'll see

@ I like NLT for much public ministry use - including youth. (I also like TNIV.) I'd skip "student" versions.
