  1. @IanAppleby No idea, but this is different. I didn't keep the URL, but if I boot it up you can follow the client link I hope.
  2. @IanAppleby I tried Ya@st for a bit, no idea about dependencies, I just DLd it and it ran on Ubuntu
  3. @lfeatherstone Yes, there is a point: you're an MP, if they give you bad service you can kick up an almighty stink
  4. @sshrpe and that was meant to be reassuring, not making it sound worse, sorry--no, you genuinely question and listen, which is a change
  5. @sshrpe Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. I'm pretty sure Alix is as pissed off as me with the OpenUp arseholes, and plenty others
  6. @LukePollard Whut? What are you trying to do that they want to charge you that much for? I've been with them 12 years as well, normally good
  7. @InnerBrat Joey Lucas in the West Wing, fairly strong regular guest character
  8. @sshrpe Directly elected executives? Fuck off. Illiberal, undemocratic and proven to cause problems. Parliamentary/Cabinet systems work.
  9. @sshrpe "you know they can't win" is the point: STV means that they *can* win. Membs rise and fall, Blair took Labour to record high pre-97
  10. I probably ought to actually write the post about the previous statement, right? I have examples and everything.
  11. @sshrpe OK, keep it simple: the system used to count votes determines the party system. *EVERY* time system changes, party system changes.
  12. @sshrpe What is this "not voting for them" thing? In contested seats, parties get loads of votes--it's only safe seats where turnout falls
  13. @sshrpe Why would you need a way to enforce policy? It used to be the only requirement was confidence votes and Supply, go back to that.
  14. @alixmortimer Can't remember TBH, I studied effect, not cause of, I'll do some digging. 1947 was pure Labour gerrymandering tho.
  15. @alixmortimer Yup, bring back multi-member borough seats and give voters the right to choose whatever they want with no wasted votes
  16. @alixmortimer Disagree--parties are only inevitable in single member seats, there used to be many more Inds before 1884
  17. @sshrpe For "PR" read "D'Hondt PR-by-list". For "Electoral reform" read "STV, the system that weakens party machine and encourages Inds" ;-)
  18. Mmm, chip butty for lunch, that was lovely.
  19. Spent Monday printing leaflets at the printworks, is spending this afternoon printing pub menus at home. Think I prefer it here.
  20. @CharlotteGore hardcode fore and background colour, but have a CSS override in template somehow?
