  1. Outstanding! The European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA have established a Mars Exploration joint initiative. Info: http://bit.ly/itazY
  2. @nextvmax All wheels are stuck in the same soft soil. The situation has been re-created as closely as possible based on data from Spirit
  3. RT @NASAJPL Join us later today on Ustream for a chat with earthquake scientists. 5pm PDT (2400 UTC). More info: http://bit.ly/quakechat
  4. Testbed work continues in the effort to free the Spirit rover. New pics and a video posted today at http://bit.ly/freespirit
  5. A rover driver "tell all." Ashely Stroup talks to Discovery about her job & the team's work to #FreeSpirit http://bit.ly/16z60p
  6. Free Spirit update: Today a test rover was driven into simulated Martian soil to begin escape testing. Pics: http://bit.ly/freespirit
  7. @martiansoil No RSS from Free Spirit page only, but all rover updates are worth receiving :) You'll be alerted here to new Spirit updates.
  8. @boofly44 It's not being tested. It's considered too risky to the instruments and not really strong enough.
  9. New video on the Free Spirit site shows how the rover team is creating a "Mars-scape" on Earth. http://bit.ly/freespirit
  10. Oppy: nearing a rock outcrop for a rest over the July4 holiday. Drivers are watching elevated currents in the right front wheel.
  11. @ivyivydeliz If you go to www.cafepress.com and search "spirit rover" you should find some "Free Spirit" shirt designs there.
  12. Today in rover testbed, engineers are mixing a soil simulant to mimic fine Martian soil that traps Spirit. http://twitpic.com/8ho2c
  13. New Web page updates the efforts to free Spirit from her Martian sand trap incl. daily pics: http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/fre...
  14. No boredom here! The place where Spirit is stuck (called "Troy") turns out to be very scientifically interesting. http://bit.ly/9DMUB
  15. @1100101@lanewoods Short answer: we don't account 4 gravity diff in testing. W/ wheel & soil in same gravity vector we test interaction.
  16. @Grizzlysgrowls This time, it's to test maneuvers to free Spirit from the spot where she's trapped in deep, fine soil.
  17. Ingredients for a Martian sandbox: Sacks of fire clay & diatomaceous earth will be mixed & wheelbarrowed into the rover testbed on Thurs.
  18. @saintneko You need a Mars day. You get an extra 39 minutes :-)
  19. Lots of requests for Free Spirit shirts. Anyone can upload a design to CafePress or look for @strangegoat's design there.
  20. No need to drool over Free Spirit shirts, unless you're a future rover driver like Ronan. He already got his! http://twitpic.com/7njtf
