  1. Carol and I are in Rhode Island with our grandchildren, daughter and son in law - life is good :-)
  2. 2012 was a good movie - my wife loved it, actually, and I thought that the action and special effects made it worthwhile.
  3. A friend has a 1/2 done Drupal project and needs a developer - and references? This would be work done remotely.
  4. I discovered a new hiking trail today within 1/2 mile of our house - a great discovery that gets me to an area in mountains behind Sedona.
  5. Heroku is awesome: just ported a MySQL+ThinkingSphinx web app to Heroku PostgresQL+texticle in about 10 minutes
  6. too long for a tweet: http://bit.ly/3hvtNG (MongoDB index and search techniques)
  7. My parrot is enjoying eating a mushroom, after flying around the house at about 25 MPH - a speed demon.
  8. I just posted http://bit.ly/2WTh5o - installing CouchDB+nginx_basic_auth + ruby client
  9. Advice on stuck EC2s: 'ec2-detach-volume --force ..' to release EBSs, ignore stuck EC2: no billing for them and they eventually go away.
  10. Someone at Amazon gave me good advice to working around "stuck" EC2 instances. I am now "un-annoyed" :-)
  11. Has now been 4 hours since a EC2instance got stuck on EMS volume errors and I tried to shut it down. Amazon needs a 'kill it now' option.
  12. Hmm - my stuck EC2 instance still has not terminated as requested after 1 hour - logs report mucho errors on EBS volumes. Need to unplug :-)
  13. Hmm. I just had an EC2 instance become unresponsive, and shutting it down did not free the mounted EBS - this is why you need EBS snapshots
  14. One advantage MonoDB has over CouchDB is sort-of OK authentication that works out of the box with a few minutes setup. Big CouchDB problem.
  15. Bummer: Jerry Weinberg's medical condition. His early book 'Egoless Programmer' had a fine effect on my career. His later books: also good.
  16. Just finished writing a DevX article on writing Wave Robots in Java - fun stuff!
  17. Latex symbols guide: http://bit.ly/jpGzd - I feel sorry for people who like to write, but don't use Latex
  18. Nice: JRuby 1.4.0 final is released :-)
  19. Using Amazon AWS (EC2, EBS, etc.): after a while, it gets to be like driving a car: you don't think about driving, just your destination :-)
  20. Rinari: the keyboard shortcuts for navigating Rails projects: http://bit.ly/2ew4yH
