@ Not really. With a journaled file system (ext 4), plus a BNC for IRC, a reset is often less painful here.

Interactivity is still one of the main issues with Linux. Dual-core machine, 4 Gigs, Kernel 2.6.31, getting the box into thrashing is easy.
