  2. We have a Christmas tree. It's another of those "living" trees that we usually plant late and that don't live long. And whose idea was this?
  3. Egad! A madman on the ice; a novice skater; alone. He skated along the edge at first and then in the middle & fell down; ice must be okay.
  4. @lakesusitna Keep on jotting notes; good way to know you're up and about.
  5. You can walk on the swamp and on the edge of the lake; ice near two inches. People come out to the access to look at the prospects.
  6. Lake ice almost thick enuf for skating; swans are gone; ducks can find no open water. Will be above freezing this PM, is now 31º.
  7. It's only in the 20s for pity's sake; like we haven't spent our adult lives in cold climes like eastern WA, upstate NY, northern IL, & AK?
  8. First real cold snap. Maybe will get four studded tires. Sure, lol. But trees block the sun on Hansville Hwy and it's slippy out there.
  9. Karen & Milo motoring fr FBX to Plmr; will carry out (my phrase) K's caribou permit if lucky. ("Carry out" is a euphemism, you understand).
  10. Hmmn…a little storm blew up.
  11. For days now the lake has barely rippled it's been so calm. Flat, glassy calm. Eagles landing in the trees, blue herons flying like arrows.
  12. @selig 5: Yes, I know "that's you" is me. Now. I've read Balzac & can quote Flaubert for pity's sake, but just cuz I didn't know that…
  13. @pointnopoint: It's good you got the flu shot. Bella's on the keyboard. She's going back & forth. I give up.
  14. @pointnopoint It's been pretty amazing the past few nights. Did you hear the unusually full-scaled eerie coyote howls? The dogs sure did.
  15. For Obama's war I'll certainly not buy war bonds & I'll loathe paying taxes to support it & its camp followers of high-profit contractors.
  16. My nasturtiums are still blooming.
  17. Great to have two Nevadans here,
  18. Yes, happy families are all alike. And unhappy families? Read the first line of "Anna Karenina" and find out.
  19. My roast turkey was a success for a change—I used to undercook the bird for fear of its drying out but finally got it right.
  20. A prospective buyer for the Thorstein Veblen offered a sum that was–no surprise–too low for JP to accept. There'll be more offers, surely.
